MAWLAMYINE

It is the Capital City of Mon State, situated at the mouth of the Thanlwin River. It is easily accessible by toad and rail from Yangon.

Places of interest in Mawlamyine are Kyaik-Than- lan Pagoda which located at the hilltop offering splendid views over the city and its harbor and Uzina Pagoda, which contains four life-sized presenting the four images of Buddha. In the vicinity of Mawlamyine are two caves, Phayon Cave and the Cave of Kawgwun, famous for its countless Buddha images, stalagmites and stalactites.

About 65 Km south of Mawlamyine near the town of Thanbyuzayet, is an Allied War memorial Cemetery for the prisoners of war who lost their lives in the building of the famous Death Railway line across the River Kwai.
