KYAIKHTIYO

Located about 200 Km,( 130 miles) from Yangon. The mystical pagoda stands on a gold gilded boulder, precariously perched on the edge of the cliff over 1100Km (3600 feets ) above sea-level. It was built in the year 574 BC (more than 2500 years ago. ) and today also known as Golden Rock Pagoda. Kyaikhtiyo is a Mon (an indigenous races.) name, meaning the pagoda that stands on the head of a hermit. The pagoda is 18 feet high and built on the boulder 50 feet in girth. There is a steep toad minding up from Kinpon base camp to Golden Rock about 11Km up hill from the base camp to the pagoda.
